THROUGH THE DIAMOND THERSHOLD: PROMOTING CULTURAL COMPETENCY IN UNDERSTANDING AMERICAN INDIAN SUBSTANCE ABUSE
Through the Diamond Threshold: Promoting Cultural Competency in Understanding American Indian Substance Misuse was created in response to the need for a culturally appropriate foundational substance use curriculum that can be used in a number of different venues and with a variety of audiences. The 12 modules may be used in one-day or two-day format or used individually in shorter in-services. Largely interactive in nature, the activities offer an opportunity for participants to become immersed in an American Indian experience. It provides a context in which participants explore how life experiences and Eurocentric perspectives have shaped attitudes about the American Indian relationship to alcohol and drug misuse. The manual comes with a CD-ROM containing a video used in one of the modules.
